Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling

Steel Magnolias is an acclaimed play about the unbreakable bond
between six Southern women in Louisiana as they navigate love,
laughter and loss.
Centred around a local beauty salon, the story showcases their
resilience and friendship, particularly focussing on the relationship
between a mother and her diabetic daughter.
Because Harling wrote thiis play to help him come to terms with the
death of his sister, the audience gets an intimate glimpse into
Harling’s own life, as well as that of his sister Susan.
Steel Magnolias was originally a short story, but playwright Harling
shifted it into play format. He also wrote the screenplay for the film
starring Sally Field, which was produced in 1989. Harling even played
a small role as a minister in the movie
